Juni's first Memorial Day

Auntie Katie visits with Juni and Grandmom

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Congratulations Michelle and Brian!

The wedding today went well. Michelle and Brian were married while the sun was shining and it was beautiful. Minister Bob did a great job leading the ceremony. Here's Jen and Bob together before before the celebrations began.

After the wedding ceremony, Jen spent most of the evening feeding or caring for Juniper in a room upstairs from the reception...

...while Bob was working as the master of ceremony and DJ at the reception.

Juniper holding Grandmom's thumb

Juniper has been using her hands more to reach for things and hold on to what is within her reach. She grabbed my wrist the other day while I was changing her and it was so cute!

Tummy time with Daddy

We've started having tummy time with Juni. So far she seems to like it. She can lift her head up and turn it to the other side. Also, she can scoot herself forward on the blanket. She hung out happily on her belly for over 20 minutes today.

Here she is with Daddy who is dressed up for his sister's wedding rehearsal today. Bob will be the minister for her wedding tomorrow. He will also be the DJ at the reception. He's been working hard at preparing for both roles.

3 weeks old

Juni is 3 weeks old today. She enjoyed a visit with both Grandmothers at once!

Here's a picture of Juni with Grammy (Bob's mom):

Grandmom

Juniper met Grandmom for the first time yesterday. Jen's mom arrived from New Jersey for a visit with the W. family. Here are two pictures of Grandmom holding Juni for the first time. In the last couple of days we have been noticing Juni is better able to focus on our faces and objects.

And here they are this morning when Grandmom held a sleeping Juni so that Mommy-Jen could take a shower.

We had a nice visit with Aunt Squishy today.  Juni is 2 weeks old and growing bigger every day.  Already I'm thinking, wow, she's growing up so fast!

Arm stretching in her sleep

Mother's Day

Happy Mom's Day to me! I'm so happy to be Juni's Mommy. Today Bob, Juni and I made a quick visit to The Container Store to get some pink plastic drawers for keeping Juni's clothes and blankets organized. One day when we live in a bigger place and we get Juni her own real dresser, we can use the plastic drawers for storing her toys.

Bob's parents came over today for a short visit, and Dr. Don took a family picture for us.

Juni smiles while she sleeps

good weight

We got good news at the pediatrician's office today! Juni weighed 6 lbs 4.5 oz. That is 1/2 oz more than she weighed when she was one day old. So things are good. The doctor was pleased and he said we don't have to wake her up at night anymore to feed her, just to let her wake us up when she's hungry. Except during the day don't let her sleep more than 4 hours at a time in the day. We are so happy and relieved. All 3 of us have been working hard at taking care of ourselves with the goal of feeding Juni often. Our hard work has produced promising results.

Guess who's been sucking her thumb!

Juni on the changing pad, looking at Daddy

8 days old

Today we went back to St. Luke's hospital for Juni's hearing test. She passed! Only one ear had passed when she was tested last Wednesday (when she was one day old), so we needed to go back to repeat the test. We were told that it is common for babies to have amniotic fluid in their ears right after birth and so that is probably why her right ear was "referred" to repeat the test. The picture above is our sweet Juni while the test was being done.

I haven't had time to blog lately because I've been nursing Juni or eating or sleeping with every spare minute. We had a scary couple of days at the beginning of this week because Juni hadn't pooed in a few days and then we learned at her doctor's appointment on Monday that her weight had dropped a little too much. By then, my milk had finally come in fully and she'd started pooping again, so the doctor said to keep up with the feedings and to keep track of her number of feeds, pees and poos, and we go in again tomorrow for another weight check.

We love her soooo much and are enjoying every minute with her. Even the scary minutes. She is the best.

4 days old

Bob took this cute picture today. We went for a walk to the grocery store this morning. Our first family outing.

Last night for the first time I was unable to soothe Juniper with my touch or a feeding, which is all that was needed for the first 3 1/2 days of her life. I was tired and when I couldn't get her to stop wailing, I started crying myself. Bob ended up taking over and he used "The Happiest Baby on the Block" tips to sooth her and it worked. He was great, and he gave me a nice break. Today he has been taking more turns holding her and soothing her during the times when she's not feeding. He enjoys hanging out with her! And he's great at using the soothing techniques.

Here's some pictures I took today:

daddy sock, baby sock

Hi everybody. Daddy here. I did $21 worth of laundry today. Now we are all caught up until tomorrow. Jen's milk came in at 4AM and Juniper finally got some serious zzzzzs, so we got a few hours of sleep too. Juni had her first spit up as well. Life has been busy around here but the best time in our lives. I've taken on the job taking care of all of Jen's needs, so that she can really be present to Juniper's needs. I think it has been working. These two are enthralled with one another.

eat.sleep.rock.repeat.

I love this picture of Juniper that Bob took this morning. She'll make a great singer. This is the shirt she was wearing when we took her home from the hospital.

Today I gave Juniper her first sponge bath. It went more smoothly than I thought it would. It helped to nurse her while I washed her hair with a washcloth. It was great to see all of her perfect, tiny body parts and to clean the crevices in her tiny ears. She has ear lobes--unattached earlobes--which neither Bob nor I have so I'll have to investigate the families to see where she got those. Her ears are so pretty.

June also received her first chiropractic treatment from Dr. Hicks today. The doctor said she is in great shape. She's well aligned and has great muscle tone and strength for a 2 day old baby. Here's a picture of part of the exam/treatment with Dr. Hicks who made a house call for us today.

I also got an adjustment which felt so great! It was my favorite adjustment ever out of the 8 years I've been seeing Dr. Hicks. My body apparently has gone through a lot of stress in the past 3 days. Dr. Hicks gave me some tips for better posture while breastfeeding. Bob was able to sooth Juni while I got my treatment in the other room. Don't they look sweet together?
